TAKEO TANABE Intoroduction to Chikuunsai 4th

Takeo Tanabe was born in the year 1973.

Takeo's Great Grandfather ( Chikuunsai Tanabe 1st ) began creating bamboo crafts
in 1890 and was the first bamboo artist
to hold his own individual exhibition in Japan in 1915.
Today the entire Tanabe family carries on the tradition.
Takeo's Grandfather ( Chikuunsai Jr ) began creating bamboo baskets
after developing the fine skills required.
In his later years,
he created some very unique bamboo pieces that were of a less symetric weave.
Takeo's father ( Chikuunsai 3rd ) is now using bamboo,
specific for the manafacture of the Japanese Arrow (Yadake) for his creations.
Takeo Tanabe started developing the bamboo art from his father ,
when he was very small.
He graduated from the fine art department of Osaka City Crafts High School and
later went on to graduate from the Sculpture Department of Tokyo Art University.
He then proceeded to develop his apprentice skills for two years in Beppu City,
Oita Prefacture.
Takeo Tanabe has exhibited in a number of foreign countries since 1999.
The chikuunsai family exhibition was held in Boston, USA in 2000,
while Takeo Tanabe also joined the craft show hosted by the Philadelphia Museum
in USA in 2001.
One of his artworks was bought by the Philadelphia Museum.
He participated in a group exhibition and then held an individual exhibition in NY,USA
in 2002.
Takeo Tanabe exhibited some works at the Anthropological Museum attached to
Zurich University in Switzerland in 2003.
He stayed in Zurich for a month and show people there how to make bamboo artworks.
Having inherited the Japanese tradition of bamboo art from his ancestors.
Takeo Tanabe would like to introduce it to as many people as possible
throughout the world.
He has ambitions to continue exhibiting in group
exhibitions while also holding individual exhibition in Japan and other parts of theworld.
Presently he is working hard with his father to earn the title Chikuunsai 4th.
